I've moved to Hive, along with most other people, following Justin Sun's takeover of Steem in the Spring of 2020. I believe hive is a lot more decentralised than Steem!

Thanks a lot for the overview! :)

Although I'm missing one big curation team: the @steemstem community, which aims to promote high-quality scientific content. Every article, which is curated, gets picked manually.
There are, of course, many guidelines which should be followed - just like it's usual for scientific content in general. But it's definitely one of the best communities, when it comes to promoting reason, common sense and science :)

What an awesome list you put together here and thank you for including @asapers and @thedarkhorse's Curation Contest too. You had me hooked with,

the bot-bastardised tragedy of the trending pages

So true!

Manual curating is a lot of work, but I love hearing the appreciation from those high quality, unnoticed steemians when we give them the kudos they deserve; it makes it all worthwhile.

The Curation Contest is another great initiative that is growing weekly; again, the work involved is well worth it when I see others selflessly searching for other steemians to curate.

I really liked taking part in that pay it forward contest for the first time this week. It's now got me into a habit of listing <40 rep peops who comment on my posts, or who.... (actually I won't give my discovery secrets away!) as potentials for next week.

The comment competition is just genius too!

Oh and thank you so much, I was PARTICULARLY pleased with that opening line, I must say... not quite up there with... 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times....' or 'There is a spectre haunting Europe'... but then again those chaps had a bit more time to play with didn't they!

The bots really are a shit show, but why focus on the bad when so much good is happening as you highlight. Glad you have enjoyed joining in the fun of the Curation Contest! Thank you for listing it here as we are 100% trying to grow this organically...no bid bots! Which means any and all support like this really helps get the word out.

You should check out @thesteemengine with out their example we wouldn't have had a model to work from @ethandsmith and the rest of the team there have built a really strong community.

These can be great for new users to encourage them to keep going. There's a lot of self interest on steemit and so it gives me hope to see less selfish projects doing good. I've used @steembasicincome to support a few people and I plan to add more. Another I support is #RunningProject and their voting bot @isotonic that is used to support the running community.

It's tempting to just take the money now, but the rewards in the long term may be much greater if we can make steemit more welcoming.

Thanks for the running tag. As to to the whole self-interest and just delegating/ not engaging does seem to defeat half the point of the platform!

You would have thought that mass adoption is going to be the most obvious thing that drives the steem price up!

Thanks. Took me ages to put together, there is quite a lot going on. I'd actually be most interested in your thoughts on @trufflepig - I came across it 'cos one of my recent posts got @trufflepigged, which I think is a compliment. Really one of the biz-arrest bots I've seen on here, in a good way (with a few reservations) I think.

Anyway, I think your curation leagues deserve to be top of the list, but be warned, if you check out the truffle, you might get a serious case of algorithmic inferiority!

Stuff worth compiling does take time 🙂

I've met the @trufflepig before, well done for being spotted. I'm not sure how much NLP is in place (refusing to open GitHub!), or final manual checks but they seem to be on the right path.

They don't seem to be filtering MB and SS from their non-botted top 10 either, work to do Piggy!

Looks like you managed to miss Pimp Your Post Thursday post sharing shows which run twice on Thursdays in the Steemit Ramble Discord and hosted by @shadowspub. The shows have been running since the first week of October 2017 and have become very popular.

She also does a manual curation project called the Steemit Ramble. It's been running since August 2016

... there are two other manual curation projects also run from there by @artemisnorth. There is @fiberartists for creatives and @paddlingnature for outdoors focused posts. @artemisnorth does a creatives coffee chat on Mondays where posts are shared at times.

Another initiative curating quality content is @helpie. Not strictly a curation initiative, but we do a Homesteading Curation and a Fine Art Curation with the plan to add more.

I certainly wish this list had existed (and maybe it did, how would I know?) when I came on four months ago, so I honestly hope that it gets some eyes on it. I've benefited from membership in the curation and engagement leagues and a few visitations each by curie and ocd. They all definitely keep me going. The ASAPers, payitforward and the dustbuster initiative all have people behind it them that I regularly interact with (there's a lot of cross pollination going on here).

I guess mainly I want to concur with and salute you for taking the time to make the list. Until the changes in code come that bring us all peace, joy and happiness these humans will just have to get us all through. :)

Thanks for the reply. These things do tend to get lost on the chain, I benefited from a similar post (more general guidance for newbies) when I first joined - if I had the time I'd write in more detail about discord groups, that did my head in a little bit back last summer, quite comfortable there now.

Yup - cross pollination... hopefully outwards too!

Excellent list. Very helpful! It’s a little more obscure, but @runningproject leads a great community for runners. The side project @isotonic operates as a vote bot to help support the running project community as well.

Wow, this is really useful, and thanks for taking the time to put all these initiatives together in one place!

I'm often struggling to expand my circle beyond just my basic followers but there's just SO much fakely represented trash out there.

It certainly is hard to get noticed. It has been known to drive me a little crazy trying to get any kind of reward for the posts that I put time into.

You have to connect and engage, and 'click' with a few people, then SOME of them will upvote you regularly, which can help - @steembasicincome and @qurator are good for guaranteeing a few cents per post.

I think there might be something of a 50-50 rule to success on here - spend 50% of your time commenting and in discord and 50% researching and writing your own work. Something like that, assuming you're not buying votes anyway!

Wow thank you so much for including our curation team in this list of prestige manual curators. Its not easy being manual but its qorth it to hear the joy in undervalued steemians comments that they have been not only read but appreciated. Its amazing how one small upvote can make life on Steemit worth sticking around for the next one. Thanks again for featuring us. I learnt something new too.

Great post man, always good to see an expanding list of curation services here on SteemIt. The effort and attention that these curators put into their work may literally end up saving this platform from itself! Steemit must have great content at its base, or, it will continue a downward spiral into a reward pool raping venture that attracts no readers, then, dead. So, Steemians, show love to the curators, toss a little SP to their efforts when you can, make great content and let's make Steemit the place to come to for great literature, great blogs, great news and analysis, great science articles, great ...everything.

I just assumed trufflepig was spam as it kept coming by my blogs to a point telling me such and such almost weekly. It just felt a little off that I somehow kept writing blogs it deemed “worthy.” As if it was just trying to tell people what they want to hear to get some upvotes. I’m still a little suspect of it I’ve had 5 visits from it. As such I never really looked into as I read a boat load of blogs 1000% better then I ever write and it was never there.

It seems genuine to me... as in there's no real money resting on it! Maybe you just tick it's algorithm boxes with your particular style of writing? It just seems to be an experiment in how to auto detect quality. The post explaining how it works is interesting reading.

But I'm not 100% myself either, so thanks for flagging it up.

#busy is also a tag you can add to your list, they vote once all twelve hours, but I think it is a little overused, once I got an upvote after two days, but then again none at all.

Yes, I'm afraid those pennies now effectively do get guzzled up by the whales and dolphins.

I think with busy you need to post through busy to get an upvote? I may be wrong? And I read something somewhere about why you shouldn't post through it.... can't remember the details, so best say no more for now.

I like the interface of busy but don't like to post from there because when I write long articles in the browser, sometimes the drafts disappear when switching sites, which never happened to me on steemit.com, even when i closed the browser accidentally.

I'm not sure if you have to post from busy.org, there were times when i posted from steemit.com and got their upvote anyways with the tag. They have two upvoting bots, busy.pay and busy.org.
