Impatiens is also called "Vanka wet." This group includes annual and perennial plants. They all belong to the Impatiens family. Impatiens likely came from tropical and subtropical areas. It grows naturally in Zanzibar and East Africa.
Some types grow in Central Asia. Balsam has been known in Europe since 1596. It has become a popular houseplant. It blooms for a long time. The stems grow straight up and can reach 0.5 meters tall.
The stems are juicy, smooth, and branch out. Leaves are 0.08 to 0.12 meters long. The leaves are shaped like ovals or spears with jagged edges. They can be green or purple-bronze. Flowers grow from where the leaves meet the stem.
Breeders have created balsam with double flowers. They come in many colors. However, there are no yellow or blue ones yet. After flowering, green fruits form. When ripe, they become dry capsules. Each capsule holds many seeds (up to 100 per 0.001 kg).
The capsule bursts open when touched. Seeds shoot out from the valves. They can travel up to 2 meters.
Balsam is easy to grow and doesn't need much care.
