The community recommended that I should self-upvote to increase the Steem
More redefinition. Actually, this is probably your community which you manage. The same ones that could just as easily delegate. Let's just say the second you earn any income, it automatically invalidates your entire argument against spam. It's essentially starting a non-profit to build homes for the homeless, while pocketing a portion of it to "reinvest" for the sake of building more homes. You have to admit it's not a good look at all. It puts you in exactly the same shoes as those you're trying to fight.
I mean, imagine that @spaminator went through the exact same thing with their community. They had the same people telling them to do this. In the end, where is the difference between them and you? You post the same regular reports. Self voting. You can try and justify all you want. Unless you turn off rewards and start taking delegations instead of self-voting, you're just @spaminator.
After more reflection, taking rewards runs contrary to your purpose again because the whole point of fighting spam is because the rewards pool is being diluted. Downvoting is fine because then that returns rewards to the pool for others, but when you yourself get the upvotes in place of the spammers you just downvoted, all that does is replace the problem. The downvotes end up not returning votes to the reward pool. Instead, the votes go to you which is really doing nothing. Once again, nothing has changed. Yeah, spammers are not getting rewards as heavily as before. Instead, you are and it just makes you another spammer. Actually, if you eventually become threatening enough to spammers, you're not just a spammer anymore, you're a racketeer because it becomes a protection racket.
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:
