LACK OF ACCESSIBLE ROADS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WE ARE FACING IN OUR RURAL COMMUNITY

INTRODUCTION

There is no gain saying that rural communities contribute so much when it comes to national development. Not minding how small or insignificant the rural communities are regarded to be, what they produce sustains them and to a large extent, the urban areas. Yet, little or no attention is given to them as they have been relegated to the background of severe underdevelopment.

The massive decay in the rural community roads is really doing a great damn of consequences to our rural dwellers. In this my content, I would sharing to the steemit community, one of the biggest problems that are facing our rural community.

Here Is One Of The Biggest Problems That People Are Facing In My Community

The people living in this area is been totally cut off from the city because of the ugly condition of the roads they have. The road leads them to the city where they take their farm produce to sell it in the urban area. But ever since the road got bad, things have turned out bad for them. No more access road to transport their farm produce to the city.

You would agree with me that most of the farm produce in the urban or city markets come from the villages in the rural communities. Now since there are no roads to transport the farm commodities, they become more impoverished as they would lost so much money because of the perishable nature of the farm produce which could not be sold.

Is there someone in your community who is making a positive difference?

In terms of making a positive difference with regards to the ugly situation of this road, the people are wholy depending on the government to make a positive difference on the road. There is no great personality or individual in the community who has the financia capacity or in a high social status to make good this bad road. So the government are been expected by the people to come as quickly as possible, to make the road passable.

Has your neighborhood recently experienced any development or improvement?

As the picture depicts, there is no devopment yet made to to repair the road. Infact, this road leads to the pit where various sands are lifted to work other roads in the city. This road got worse as the heavy duty equipments that are to contruct roads and excavate sand pass through it. As it stands now, there is no positive development not to talk of improvements on the road.

What steps are people taking to solve local problems?

The challenge posed by this bad road to the people in this area is that, it has limited their access to sell their farm produces to the city markets. Now to solve the local problem, the people in this area have resorted to taking their farm produces to their local markets to sell. But this is not ending the problem. Just like we know how the local markets in the village and commuities only sells once a week, they do not sell all their commodities.

For instance, a certain group of people in Nigeria called the Igbos, have a four market days that sells in their various communities which are still existing till today. The market days are named as follows in their local language:

• Eke

• Orie

• Afor

• Nkwo

Now as these market days are sold once in a week, any farm produce that are not sold would not last to thr next market day of the week.

Steemains, you could now see with me that this community is losing so much as a result of the bad road that they have.

Why do you think your story is important for others to know?

As you could see from this picture, you would now carwfully observe that there is no economic activities in this area because of the ugly condition of this road.

Good road is a necessity when it comes to rural development. The lack of rural development encourages rural to urban migration. This is why most of our rural communities are still backwards in getting developed.

Lack of good roads in our rural communities further causes more hardship to the people in that area. Since there is no access road from the rural to the urban city, farm produce would be difficult to be transported the urban markets. This is a loss of economic value needed for national development.

The government and good spirited individuals should combine efforts to ensure that our rural community roads are in good motorable conditions.
