When I hear the word fan, what immediately comes to mind is a device that helps us cool down by moving air around. It’s such a simple invention but has become a daily necessity, especially in heat season. Fans come in different shapes and sizes from the small ones you can carry around in your hand to the big ones hanging from the ceiling in living rooms and offices.

Is There a Fan in My Home?

Yes, there is a fan in my home. Actually, we have two. One is a ceiling fan, and the other is a rechargeable standing fan very handy for when there's no electricity. I can still remember when we bought the ceiling fan; it was about three years ago, during the heat of April. The standing fan was a later addition, picked up two years ago when we finally realized that power cuts were not something we could just ignore anymore.

My Favorite Type of Fan

Between the hand fan, ceiling fan, table fan, and wall fan, my favorite is definitely the ceiling fan. There's just something about a ceiling fan that makes a room feel cooler and more spacious. Plus, it doesn’t take up floor space or get knocked over accidentally. It quietly spins above your head, doing its job without making much of a fuss. And if you choose the right one, it can even add some beauty to your room’s decor.

What Happens If You Touch a Ceiling Fan That’s Turned On?

Touching a ceiling fan that's turned on is a very bad idea! The blades are spinning so fast that they can cause serious injury. Even though the blades might look light, at that speed they can cut the skin or even break a bone if the fan is strong enough. It's always best to keep your hands, or anything else, away from a moving ceiling fan for your own safety.

Today, things might be a bit better, with people investing in solar power and rechargeable devices, but the memory of sitting under a mango tree, fanning myself with a hand fan while waiting for the evening breeze, will always be a part of who I am.
