SFS Contest Picture of the Day Week 38

The picture of the clay shop above is my best picture today. I am a citizen of Bangladesh. And in Bangladesh, clay items are a traditional thing. Earlier they were found in huge quantities, but now they are on the verge of extinction. These clay items are very rarely found. Those who make these items are called Kumars. And their residence is known as Kumarpara.

There is also a Kumarpara in our area but except for only 2-3 people, no one makes clay items there. Because in this digital age, everything is becoming modern. And alternatives to clay furniture have come out long ago, so there is a touch of modernity among people. As a result, the use of these clay items is decreasing and so the potters are also giving up making them and doing other things.

Today I went to Lalbagh in the afternoon to do our mess market. And today was Wednesday. A market is held in Lalbagh every Sunday and Wednesday. And only on this market day can these clay items be found in Lalbagh. Today, after the market, I was passing by there when these clay items caught my eye. Among all the shopkeepers, the shopkeeper whose picture I took was the oldest.

Just by looking at the man, it is clear that he is a man from a long time ago and his face still has the simple look of those old days. I went to him and said, "Grandpa, can I take a picture of you?" In response, he smiled a little and said, "Tulu." Then I took a picture of the old man with his clay furniture shop. He was sitting under a tree with his shop.

Actually, these clay items are the heritage of our country. But with the touch of modernity, these clay items are disappearing day by day. We should take care that this heritage is not completely lost. And our future generations should know about this heritage so that they can be preserved. Because it is the responsibility of everyone as a citizen of that country to protect the heritage of a country.
