Hello steemingzen!
First of all I would love to define procrastination in my own little way; if you put it 📴 - postpone what you could or should do now, then you procrastinate. A procrastinator delays action that should be taken immediately. Hmm 🧐 I was a one 🕐 time procrastinator.
I was always tired 😩 of finishing my chores, and assignment late. Truly procrastination is a thief of Time. Some tasks used to seems overwhelming and daunting, and it feels like the easier thing to do is putting them 📴. Then sometimes I didn't have the motivation to carry out some assignments because it involves tasks that bore 🥱 me most, and other times I felt I'm already busy.
I've realized the consequences of procrastination
Yes thinking that something could be done without putting in any effort can produce a sicking😷 feelings, because as you get closer to the deadline you will definitely begin to feel pressure and anxiety and as this feelings build up Your creative ability will Eventually be hampered. You won't have time to measure the various ways to accomplish the goal, all you will need is to get it done. God word states that if we watch the wind 🍃 we will not sow seed; and that the person looking at the clouds will not reap.
How I overcome procrastination:
I first of all I look at those factors that might contribute to my procrastinating problem and then outline things I can do to stop procrastinating.
What I normally do is breaking down of projects into smaller segments if I feel it's overwhelming, and I tried to do one thing at a time🕐 even if I know that I'm way behind. I used to begin my tasks immediately even if it means simply adding it to my to-do-list or jotting down a numbers of ideas before I forget them.
I used to ask for help, I especially used to tap from my parent and mentor's experiences, they face the Same situation and overcome them, so this ones used to help me organized my ideas and to make plans.
Tips:
Always make a schedule, you have to be organized and determined to follow the list through. This works for me, it helps me to get things done when it needed to be done.
If I feel unmotivated or too bored to carryout a particular task, I used to try the following:
- thinking of the reasons to do the task early, I used to imagine how great I will feel when I'm done with the task, you know I love the feeling of getting things done on time. Or when I'm ahead of schedule, I mean I can finally relax.
- I always remind myself of the consequences of procrastination, I always remember that delaying will add to my stress and take away my chances of success, remembering this used to move me to do things at the right time.
- I also used to move the due date closer to my mind, doing this help me to pretend that an assignment is due one or two days before the actual deadline so I can recheck it I still have a day or two to spare. You can try this tricks.
Tips:
Always tell yourself that you will do what needs to be done that nothing will get in your way, so it's all about mindset yeah what needs to happen will definitely happen.
If I feels I'm already too busy this tips helps me:
- Doing the easier tasks first, tasks that is less than 5mins to complete right away. This includes a phone calls, washing of dishes and hanging of my clothes etc.
- I used to set priorities, yeah I make sure of the More important things. Through keeping the list of assignments I got. Well this might seems a bit restrictive but the fact is that making a schedule helps me to have control of my time instead of Time to control me. It reduces my stress and calms me down.
Tips:
Remember that whatever you are supposed to do won't go away until you do it, so rather than getting it hang over your head just get it done that way you can get relax and rest for the day!
These are few ways that I avoided procrastination. I hope you liked my write up. thanks for reading through!
