As the Easter holidays is still in full swing in my village, I decided to take charge of the kitchen and prepare a mouth-watering Nigerian dish that would bring everyone together.

Yesterday, 21st April 2025 was the day I chose to cook the famous MTN rice. The name "MTN rice" always brings a smile to my face. It's called so because of its distinctive yellowish color, which is a result of the generous use of palm oil during cooking.
The bright yellow colour reminds everyone of the MTN telecom company's brand colour, hence the nickname. I woke up early, feeling excited and eager to start cooking.
I began by rinsing the rice and soaking it in water. Meanwhile, I prepared the ingredients for the flavorful sauce that would accompany the rice. The aroma of onions, tomatoes, and spices filled the air, teasing everyone's taste buds.

As the rice cooked, I heated the palm oil in a large pot, watching as it transformed into a golden-yellow liquid. I added the sauce mixture and stirred well, allowing the flavours to meld together. The kitchen was filled with the savory scent of MTN rice, and everyone's stomach growled in anticipation.

Finally, the moment of truth arrived. I served the steaming hot MTN rice on a large platter, garnished with chopped fresh vegetables. My son, Princewill, his niece, Unwana and other members of the family gathered around the pot and picked their portion, their faces lighting up with excitement.
The first bite was like a symphony of flavours on our taste buds. The combination of the slightly sweet palm oil, the tangy tomato sauce, and the fluffy rice was absolute perfection. Everyone savoured each bite, enjoying the delightful Easter treat.

As we ate, the environ was filled with laughter, chatter, and the occasional request for seconds (or even thirds!). It was a truly special moment, one that I would cherish forever. The MTN rice had brought us all together, reminding us of the joy and love that comes with sharing a delicious meal.

As the day drew to a close, I looked around at the happy faces, feeling grateful for the opportunity to cook and share such a wonderful meal with my loved ones. The Easter holidays would continue, but the memory of that mouth-watering MTN rice would stay with us forever.
