Bulk purchase and single purchase which one do you prefer?

Some years ago, I had an elderly friend who once advised me always try to buy things in bulk. The rich spends less because they buy items in bulk while the poor spends more in purchasing items than the rich because they are retail buyers

It took sometime for me to realize the truthfulness of that advise. Through this contest, you will the reasons why I said the mans counsel was the fact.

This contest is about bulk purchase and retail purchase, which one I do prefer?.

But first, let define somethings in case we have forgotten.

Explain Bulk purchase and single purchase in a layman understanding.

Bulk Purchase

This can be defined as the purchase of an item or goods in large quantities. This simply means that instead of buying items in small quantities or units, we do so in big units, cartons or whole bags just like wholesalers do.

To illustrate, A carton of powdered milk contains twelve packs. So the individual buys the carton instead of buying in single units that is 1 pack of it.

Single purchase

This can be defined as the purchase of single item or unit of a product rather than a full carton of it. It is just like the retail sellers that sell only single items or unit of a product.

To illustrate, a carton of sugar contains 12 packs but you bought only 6 cubes from a pack. This is single unit purchase.

Between these two which one is your favorite? And why.

Buying in bulk is my favorite and the best. The reason for this is so many but I will mention some.

Buying in bulk saves your time and energy of constantly going to the shop to pick up items in little units.

It also prevents and protect you from having an emergency need for that item. It is easier to determine and know when the goods are in the house and when they are finishing.

It helps you to know your stock reorder level whether at home or anywhere.

It helps you to ascertain the level of usage of the item at home, and then consider if it is not wasted and how long a particular quantity bought is used in the house. This makes it easier to control wastage at the home front.

It hugely reduces the amount we spend in purchasing of goods or items. It saves the individual a whole lot of money by buying in bulk.

These are some of the reasons why I prefer bulk purchasing.

Which of these two can you advise someone to carry out ?

I will always advise a person to buy in bulk because of the reasons I stated above. I have confirmed what my elderly friend told me so many years ago. I and my family adopted it and it saved us lots of stress and funds. So it is always my take any day any time.

Some people believe bulk purchase is only for the rich while single purchase is for average person what is your take ?

Well, bulk purchase is not for the rich people alone. The average can still do that. I think that why people say so is due to unavailability of funds.

The rich have cash in bulk, hence can easily afford items in bulk while it may be pretty difficult for an average person who don't have the cash in bulk and may have other basic needs to spend the little cash he has on.

So you can now see why I said that the rich spends less due to bulk purchasing while the poor spends more.

Let me give an example too. A 50kg bag of rice cost about N95000 in my local currency which is about 216 cups of rice. An average person buying in cups would buy at the price of N500/cup. This means that he will spend extra N13000 by the time he must have bought a 50kg bag of rice.

This is just a little analogy of how much money we save by buying in bulk. So an average person can discipline himself and plan to acquire items in bulk too.
