Hello friends, trust you all are doing great. It is another fine week.
Most of us have several aspirations as a young child. While in the primary school grade, it is easy to hear children say things like * I want to be doctor, nurse, lawyer, engineer and so many other noble professions, when I grow up*. But does life always go in the direction of what I or many of us want?
This contest with the topic My Childhood Dream Profession and My Present Reality is going to guide me as I explore this subject. I also know that many of us have been in this state before. So let's hop in as I use the contest tips to write more on this.
What was your dream profession and why did you aspire to become a professional in that field
My dream profession as a young person was being a medical doctor.
As a young child, I had the privilege of seeing my grandparents from both sides that os from my father's and mother's side.. Both grandparents were already in their old age. I loved them much. So it always pained me to hear that they were sick. I had quite some good memories as a kid with them since I lived with them for some time.. Thus I would not anything like sickness to come close to them. Hence my desire to choose a profession which would enable me take care of them.
Additionally, seeing people getting sick and losing a childhood friend's dad to the cold hands of death spurred that dream the more. I love helping people and would want to do anything within my power to assist keep them alive.
I also get sick and see my sibling getting ill from time to time. So I always feel like, How I wish I was a doctor, I could have helped out in this capacity.
So that desire was borne out of human sympathy, affection and not for the reality then.
What is your present reality? Did you pursue it or found another interesting path along the way?
Having a dream is great but achieving it is entirely a different ball game since achieving it does not entirely depend on you.. That dream was not realized due to some extenuating factore.. I pursued it but several factors affected that. I was denied admission in the University just because I was not within the catchment area of the school. It really got me heartbroken. For some of us that sought for admissions in the early 90's, we would understand better.
I had limited opportunity to retake the exams since I had other siblings to be taken care of. So I quickly switched to another path which have definitely made an impact too in my life.
Why did you change your dream profession If you did & why didn't you change if you didn't?
Circumstances change and so does dreams change. The only constant in life is change. Some of the things that were sought after back then are no more as glamorous as it seemed to be. Additional, as you grow, you realize that there are other aspirations and important things which requires personal attention, hence superceding what you had in mind as a childhood dream.
All of these combined together with what I mentioned earlier contributed to ditching that dream.
Is there any regret for what you do today?
No regrets at all. Dreams are dreams and not realities. So, when circumstances change, you make adjustments too to accommodate the present condition.
Secondly, dreams are all about being successful and achieving it does not make you successful. There are other means through which a person can be successful fulfilled in life.
While it may good to have dreams, ot would be good to know when to stop chasing it and face realities.
