The pope is the Bishop of Rome as head of the Roman Catholic Church. Link
The name "Pope" is originally derived from the word "father ". And this is quite so because he play the role of a father to the church.
The Pope is not just a name for the supreme pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope is a Scottish surname breaking boundaries as a stand-out personal name for boys. Pope comes from the Latin Papa, meaning “father,” once given to all respected clergy members. Link
I saw the process of appointing a new Pope in a movie few months ago, and it is an organized gathering of top leaders to vote and appoint another Pope. Until they have achieved their aim, the gathering can take as long as it holds.
A major mistake we make, not just for the pope but for every leadership positions. We compare the person in leader with his predecessor, which is wrong. They are two personality, and it is totally wrong to expect the delivery of a person to match that of another.
The former Pope remains the former Pope while the pope is the Pope. Comparism will only make you lose your faith in the person leading.
