Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease that affects humans and other animals. It has a strong effect on humans and animals that it can kill if not treated on time. Over the years thousands of deaths has been recorded all around the world mostly Africa having the highest records as a result of Malaria infection.
THE CAUSES OF MALARIA.
Normally malaria is caused by mosquitoes who bites someone that has malaria and then transferred it to another person by biting the person. It simply transfers the parasite from one person to another person's bloodstream just by biting.
According to research, anyone can get malaria. Mostly people from Africa has a higher risk of infection than others. Young people, pregnant women and older people has an increase risk of dying from malaria.
Malaria symptoms usually appear 10 days to one month after the person was infected. Depending on the type of parasite. Some people don’t feel sick for up to a year after the mosquito bite. Parasites can sometimes live in the body for several years without causing symptoms. Below are some common symptoms or signs of malaria.
- Fever
- Headache
- Cold
- Cough
- Vomiting
- Chest pain
- Breathing problem... Etc
The most common symptoms or signs I feel if I have malaria is that of the fever, headach, and cold so I immediately go for treatment once I see those signs.
HOW COMMON IS MALARIA IN MY AREA
Malaria is very common in my area where I live because of the gutters and the bad roads we have. My mum is a nurse and has a pharmacy so I can tell how common it is because of the number of people who come there for treatment almost everyday. But young and old people come there for treatments all the time.
There are different ways to prevent malaria
- Visit your doctor if you start feeling the symptoms
- Always keep your environments clean
- If you live in an environment where there is mosquitoes always cover your bed with nets or use mosquito repellent
- If your travelling to an area where there is mosquitoes take malaria drugs before going, it helps preventing the chances of you getting infected
- Avoid exposing anything that attracts mosquitoes, like dirty water that settles on the floor for a longtime.
- Chloroquine (Aralen),
- Doxycycline (Vibramycin, Oracea,
Adoxa, Atridox) - Quinine (Qualaquin)
- Mefloquine (Lariam)
- Atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone)
- Artemether/lumefantrine (Coartem)
- Primaquine phosphate (Primaquine).
I use chloroquine mostly when ever I feel the symptoms of malaria in me. If it gets worse I visit my healthcare.
Malaria is a deathly disease and as such needs not to be kept for a longtime before treating it. I hope you find this post an interesting one, and of you have any questions please drop it at the comment section of this post and I will gladly reply to your comments in no time.
