A heart attack occurs as a result of a blockage, due to a blood clot that forms in the coronary artery in the heart, which stops the flow of blood, which will eventually lead to to damage of the heart muscle.
During this attack, also known as myocardial infarction, the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle is seized, causing damage or death of the heart tissue permanently, resulting in several symptoms like shortness of breath and chest pain.
Causes of Heart Attack |
---|
Coronary artery disease: The coronary artery supplies blood to the heart and can be blocked due to accumulation in the artery wall, leading to a heart attack.
Blood clots: Blood flow to the heart can be blocked due to blood clot that forms in the coronary artery, leading to a heart attack.
The three common symptoms of heart attack are;
Chest Pain
Heart attack can result in severe pressure or tightness of the chest, causing discomfort as it might extend to other parts of the body, like the back, neck, or stomach.Shortness of Breath
Heart attack often results in difficulty breathing, especially when undergoing a difficult task, in most cases the people experiencing this issue might still be feeling winded even when they are not carrying out any task.Nausea or Vomiting
These pains caused by heart attack can result in stomach discomfort leading to vomiting, and will eventually cause abdominal cramps, and dizziness.
Smoking as we all know is likely to destroy the heart since it can cause damage to the inner lining of blood vessels, making the path narrow, therefore slowing down the flow of blood to the heart, leading to a heart attack.
Smoking exposes the heart to a high risk of blood clots, which may lead to blockage in the flow of blood to the heart, leading to heart attack.
Risk of high blood pressure caused by smoking, which may likely cause a heart attack.
The supply of oxygen to the heart can be reduced, due to damage in the lungs done by smoking, leading to heart attack.

A friend's experience in secondary school |
---|
Saviour a friend and classmate of mind, back then in secondary schools, was a lover of sports, specifically football and cricket. He had impressive skills that always made him victorious in almost every game he participated.
One day, we were having inter-class sports, and everyone was on the field participating in any sport of their choice. Saviour was also there playing football, suddenly we saw him grab his chest and collapse to the ground, such an incident had never occurred before, we all thought he was joking, but as we got to him we found out it was a serious issue.
Saviour was struggling to breathe, and it was getting worse, we need called the attention of the game master, which he sent to the school nurse immediately. The nurse arrived and administered first aid to him while waiting for the ambulance.
Not too long the ambulance arrived and rushed him to the hospital. The doctor attended to him and resolved the condition. Saviour stayed in the hospital for several days getting his treatment. The information got to us that he was recovering, which was a relief to us all. A few days later, he returned to school, and he adjusted to his lifestyle, including regular exercise and consuming a balanced diet.
From his experience, he was able to advise other people about the health issues of heart attack.
Saviour's situation enlightened us on the risk of heart attack, also the importance of recognizing its symptoms to help call for medical attention in cases of such.
Heart attack is a deadly condition, anyone can be affected, regardless of age, health conditions or fitness level. Everyone is liable to be cautious of this issue and take prevention measures as important.
Smokers are more likely to be affected, and people involved should refrain from it, to prolong his or her lives.
