What kind of home remedies do you use to relieve the common cold?

 

Common cold is very wildly spread condition especially in winter or in autumn but also spring, those two seasons usually have weather that is changing so often, like rainy and windy. Sometimes we do not have warm clothes or it is a case when we got wet through and have cold wind that makes us feel even colder. The other reason is that we are in close contact with a person who has cold, like children in nursery or school. We know that children usually play together without paying attention if the child next to us has cold or not. Kids are also drinking something from the same mug and if one has cold then the other might get infected too.

For me, the best remedies are:

  • hot tea with lemon and honey I know that first aid help from my childhood because normally we do not have appetite but lemon had Vitamin C and honey some fructose that is natural sugar that we need for our brain

  • to stay in bed and plenty of sleep

  • next day if you feel better then definitely you should go in fresh air, that is good for muscles and your lung

 

What do you think causes the common cold?

 

Causes of common cold are usually viral, there are many different viruses, some of them affect mucosa of nose and causing running nose, sneezing or blocked nose too.

The other viruses affect more throat area and may cause swollen tonsils, sore throat and ear ache

The other and more commonly affect bronchi and lungs and may cause coughing, shortness of breath and difficulty with breathing

All of them can cause muscle ache and temperature.

Sometimes causes of cold could be Bacterial infection then we can fight them with antibiotics

To identifies the cause it is good to have some throat swabs, sputum that could be checked for cultures and usually for sensitivity to different bacteria

There is no special recipe for my remedy, actually just simple black tea that I add a piece of lemon and one spoon of honey. To that tea I like salty sticks, that is the best food when I am ill. I usually do not have appetite and do not really eat for a day or too just hydrate myself.

Usually it is a week time but I noticed couple of days later that I am back to my strength, I think it is my immune system that is doing the main job fighting the viruses or bacteria. Therefore, sleep is the best for body to give time and to concentrate its energy for this fight.

One day when I start feeling hungry is a good sign that means that the battle is won and my body now needs energy for restoring itself.
