Durian, the national fruit of Indonesia and is known as the "King of fruits." Durian has a very rare and distinctive appearance with its spiky exterior, its aroma is very strong; its aroma spreads much further than other fruits.

Durian is pungent for some people - especially non-Indonesians - but there is no denying that durian is very much loved; it tastes delicious and soft.

Some people may hate the smell (even when it is yellow) but most Indonesians personally really, really like durian because it is soft and sweet.

The flesh of the durian fruit is creamy or golden yellow in color and has a creamy consistency depending on the skin. Each durian fruit, based on its variety (montong, petruk, or musang king) has a slightly more special taste and aroma so the experience of eating durian is somewhat personal).

In Indonesia, durian is usually eaten immediately after being opened. Many people like its soft, sweet, but slightly hard flesh that can be eaten directly. However, durian is also commonly used as a base for many other products, such as durian ice cream; durian pancakes and durian dodol (the edible mushroom part), and in cakes and ice cream.

Tempeh from Java and Palembang too, sometimes durian tempeh is even fermented from durian and used as a Sumatran spice.

Durian is a seasonal fruit, the durian fruit season occurs once or twice a year, depending on the weather and planting location. The durian season usually lasts from December to January, where you can find several intensively grown varieties that are now available all year round in large markets. Durian lovers really look forward to the harvest season because durian is ripe and affordable at that time.

I really like durian as a food. Apart from the distinctive durian taste that I get from durian, durian also brings back memories of family togetherness when we eat durian during the harvest season.
