Good morning steemians. It is a great pleasure to participate in this contest “What is environmental pollution and how it is polluting the environment”. In this post, I will highlight the meaning of environmental pollution, different ways environment can be polluted, and solutions to them.

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION AND HOW IT IS POLLUTING THE ENVIRONMENT

Environmental pollution is the disruption of normal day-to-day activities by releasing harmful substance or toxics into the environment. Environmental pollution is majorly caused by man.

Day-to-day activities has ruined the status of the environment. Domestic wastes, industrial refuses has contributed to the degradation of the environment. It is important to know how it is polluting the environment.
Domestic wastes originates from the house (kitchen and other places). In the kitchen for instance, during cooking, kitchen wastes can be generated. Plantain peels, Egg shells, vegetables remains, leftovers foods, etc is being generated as wastes in the kitchen. If not dispose properly, it is being laid down to the soil. Then, the wastes is decomposed gradually producing carbon dioxide, ammonia, hydrogen, sulphide and water vapour. The carbon dioxide if accumulate much in the atmosphere disrupt the oxygen-carbon balance.

This promote a bad sight of the waste remains and also bad for the human health. Waste should be dispose properly and burn in the incinerator. Exhaust from motor vehicle create fumes or smokes which is unhealthy to the environment. Car exhaust creates smoke because of abnormal maintenance or incomplete combustion of carbon. These smoke circulate in the atmosphere causing the irritation of human's eyes and also cause serious breathing problems.
Industries produces wastes everyday in form of smokes from machine (air pollution), ores (land pollution) and so on. Industrial wastes are very bad to the human health.

Solutions

• Industries should be situated far away from residential areas

• Incinerators should be situated at homes to enable waste burning

• Government should oversee the river zones as to how people dispose waste in the river.

• Although this world is still technologically inclined, vehicles used and heavy machines do cause air and noise pollution. So with this, these vehicles should be sound enough to run smoothly

Conclusively, Environment is the gift of nature, so, it should be handled with care. Let join hands to protect our gift of nature.
