Orthodox Christians in Russia celebrated Willow (Palm) Sunday yesterday.
What is Willow Sunday?
Willow or Palm Sunday is a church holiday dedicated to the solemn entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem and is celebrated a week before Easter. On this day, Christians remember that Jesus Christ came to Jerusalem and was greeted by Jews as a king and hero with palm branches. But in Ancient Russia, palm trees did not grow, the climate was not the same, so the Russian Orthodox Church came up with the idea of using willow branches with flowers.
On this day, Believers go to Church with a bouquet of willow branches to consecrate them. Then these branches are kept in the house for a whole year. They are usually located next to the icon.
It had rained the day before, but at night the temperature dropped below zero and the raindrops froze.
