I suppose that is just life, this seemingly constant stream of contradictory rules and advice we're getting... most of it far more reflective others' desires and needs to control than any sincere wish for the people they advise to have actual better lives.

Growing up in a stereotypical Scandinavian family — distant and emotionless — as a highly feeling little kid meant I often skated on the edges of what was considered hysteria or — at the very least — being "troubled."

It was not a comfortable world...

I am not sure if this is typical for scandinavian families, within my family the only thing I heard was: facts.. feelings are not important if you have facts you can return and we discuss. This is more likely the result of the academic/medical family and the effects of the Japanese concentration camp.

Was it pleasant? No. I am glad I left and grew old.
