One of the major inhibitors of success is fear. In fact, to even take the first step towards something great may be almost impossible with fear in your mind. This is why fear needs to be stopped, so that it will not potentially stop the person. It is true that fear has been seen by many as a natural human emotion, but allowing it to control you is what becomes bad. The truth is that, to conquer fear does not mean stopping or eliminating it completely, but it means being able to rise above it anytime it comes.

Fear may arise when you want to do something that you have not done before - like taking a new career, undertaking a new task, going through an unfamiliar path, starting a new job, starting a new business, or even speaking to new audience. There may be that thought of "what will the outcome be?" "What if the action did not yield positive results?" A lot of "what ifs." These thoughts can create a feeling of fear of uncertainty or of failure within you. It is in these moments that you need to rise with courage to overcome your fear. If you allow fear to stop you from taking a step, then you have allowed it to prevent you from reaching your destination.
In order to overcome and silence fear, there are things that you need to know and do. Firstly, you have to understand that fears are neither facts nor truth, but they are just feelings. It is worthy to note that because you feel fear within you does not mean that it has happened already, and it does not also mean that you are in danger. Even if you begin to doubt your ability at some point, it does not also mean that you are not capable of achieving something great. When you understand that, most times, fear is just a feeling, you will not allow it to ground you. When you begin to see fears as mere signals from the mind and not a sign for you to stop, then you will learn to overcome fear.
Another way to overcome and silence fear is to build your level of confidence by having adequate preparation. You will agree with me that when you are prepared extensively for something, you will feel less anxious and more at ease while doing it. For example, if you are going for an exam that you have prepared very well for, the level of confidence you will take into the hall will be high. But if you have not prepared enough, fear may start to grip you. If you are afraid to speak in public, you can begin to prepare and practise in front of the mirror. Then after you are comfortable, you can gather a group of friends and family members and talk to them. These will get you prepared for the larger audience. Adequate preparation helps you to silence the voice of fear.

The next, and very potent way to overcome fear is to have a positive mindset. When you think positively of something, the likelihood of being scared of it becomes reduced. For example, if you think that you can pass an exam, you will not be caught in the fear of the same exam. Your mentality tends to shape the wey you perceive things. When you are faced with a task that might look scary, just remind yourself that you can do it. In fact, you can use your past victories to have hope that you can also get victory in your present challenges. What you think in your mind has a way of affecting your actions. If you do not let fear to take root into your mind, it will not have a foothold in you and it will not influence your actions.
The last point here is to surround yourself with the people who will help you to keep fear at bay. The encouragement that comes from friends, family, colleagues, acquaintances, can go a long way to motivate you to take actions to face your fears. The truth is that when people believe in you and they tell you that they believe in you, it will become easier for you to believe in yourself. Having people that you can trust and who will give you the push to take actions can make you to face and overcome life's scary moments.
