EVERYTHING ABOUT ABOLITION OF THE SLAVE TRADE

Hello steemians, I’m here to talk about the Abolition of the slave trade and also give the reasons and how it was obtained.

The Slave trade was abolished in Denmark in 1803, Britain in 1807, the Netherlands in 1814, and France in 1818. Many people fought for the abolition of the trade. People who fought for the abolition of the Slave trade were called abolitionists. Lord Mansfield, the Chief Justice of Britain in 1772, Granville Sharp, a lawyer, Thomas Clarkson, and William Wilberforce, a member of the British Parliament were very influential in getting the British Parliament to Abolish the slave trade. slaves from Jamaica were called MAROONS.

1. The rising revolts in the Caribbean Islands: The Maroons of Jamaica for instance launched a major rebellion against the British in the eighteenth century. Many other revolts of slaves across America, Brazil, and the West Indies contributed to the abolition of the Slave trade.

1. Criminals were sold by chiefs as punishment: People who were found wrong in an act were sold to slave masters as a sign of punishment.

2. Debtors and domestic slaves: Debtors were sold and domestic slaves were also resold to slave dealers. Those who owed and could not pay were sold to repay the debt.

3. Raids by African and European gangs: These raids were conducted for the sole purpose of catching free Africans for sale.

4. Prisoners of war: Through inter-tribal and inter-state war, captives were sold to slave merchants who then transported them to the new world.
