Do you think Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, etc., can be taken seriously as news sources? If so, how do you avoid being fooled?
Well, I think social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, etc., can be useful most of the time and be taken seriously as news sources, but they can't be fully trusted as first-hand news sources but as secondary news sources.
The reason why I said it could be taken seriously as a news source is that all the news platform now has their own social media page for sharing information. However, to be fooled by fake news, it is advisable to verify information through reputable news platforms to cross-check the facts and be sure about the information rather than from a social media user.
Do you use social media to study or learn something?
Yes, I do use social media to learn something new. Learning new things or something I didn't know before is what I use social media like YouTube for. I created my YouTube account to learn something new from YouTube tutorials and communities, and I also used Instagram and TikTok most of the time.
What is more important to you when using social media: knowledge or entertainment, and why?
Knowledge is more important to me when using social media platforms. I value knowledge more than entertainment because it is more important to me than entertainment. However, I do also used social media for entertainment to keep myself happy which is mostly when I am down and want to keep myself busy and stay away from being depressed. However, balancing both is the best way to use social media platforms.
Are you worried about the time you spend on social media?
Yes, I am worried about the time I spend on social media. To me, I think social media is being designed to be addictive, and it is an easier way for someone to lose track. Most of the time, I will tell myself that I want to spend only 10 minutes on social media, but I will end up spending more than 1 hour.
Draw your own conclusion.
One of the powerful tools for entertainment and sharing of information is social media, which offers us both entertainment and knowledge but is full of fake information and distraction. For us to properly use social media well, we should be a critical thinker, get our information from reliable source, and manage our time wisely.
