The Diary Game [26/04/2025] // Follow the Funeral of Pope Francis

Steem greetings @everyone from the motherland-Cameroon and welcome to my blog for another diary game session. Guys, it was the weekend as usual and I had decided to stay home all day to rest properly. This is because last weekend I did a massive food shopping that can last us for 2 weeks.

This day happened to be the funeral day of the late Pope Francis and because I will be at home the whole day, I decided to follow the live program on France24. Before the funeral service started, I prepared breakfast which was pancakes. It's been a long time I last prepared pancakes and my kids requested them.

After eating the pancakes, I switched on the TV to follow the burial program of the late Pope Francis. I am not a Catholic Christian but I loved the Pope due to his humanitarian gestures.

It was a serene and solemn ceremony with world leaders and church clergies present. What caught my attention the most was the simplicity of the coffin. There was no exaggeration and it speaks volumes in my mind how we Africans of such calibre will spend millions to create a coffin and burry in the ground while in that same community, people are suffering.

His love for humanity was unmatched and I reflected on his outings to South Sudan where he kissed the feet of the president to beg for him to consider peaceful negotiations and considered civilians lives lost in a senseless war in his country.

He also had compassion for refugees and on several occasions fought for the rights of refugees. On several occasions, he was misunderstood in his stance on protecting human rights as he advocated for the rights of All. He was an open leader who said “…Jesus came for sinners and... The church is home to everyone”

As he journeyed to his final resting place one thing came to my mind about his legacy. I then asked myself what I would be remembered for when I depart from the world to eternity. I will also like each of us to reflect on this and put the love for humanity first.

After long hours of following the funeral program, I became famished and I prepared ogbono soup and garri. We ate and ready to watch the final of the Copa De Rey between Barcelona and Real Madrid. It was obvious that Real supporters were full everywhere in town and you dare not start an argument with them as they use past glory to intimidate opponents.

I did not support either team but if I'm asked who do you prefer to win? I will definitely choose Barcelona because they play entertaining football.

The 90 minutes of drama was not enough to get the winners of the day and extra time was added. During the first 45 minutes of the game Barcelona dominated and overconfident spoiled the show in the second half of the game as Real pressured their defence with the presence of Killian Mbappe with several shots.

In the end, it was a victory for Barcelona as they triumphed with a 3:2 winner over Real Madrid. At least, we could sleep with a calm atmosphere in the city as Real lost.

It was a day to reflect while watching the funeral service of the late Pope and as well an entertaining day as I watched the Copa De Rey finals. Until my next diary guys, enjoy your weekend.
