I like your article. You might try http://reaper.fm as an audio editor. I use it for music production and podcast editing.

It seems pretty capable. I'm so used to Ableton Live that it's unlikely I'd switch though, even though it's not perfect for editing. Does Reaper do OMF import do you know?
