This is based on information I could find online but bear with me anyway. Please feel free to correct me if I got something wrong. I didn't spend hours researching it as it just kind of came to me one day.
It seems generally accepted that it costs $.02 to heat a gallon of water and the average shower head puts out 3 gallons of water a minute. So by my math if every household (not person but entire household) showered one less minute per week we could save:
$.02 per gallon to heat x 3 gallons per minute = $.06 per household saved and 3 gallons of water not used.
Doesn't seem like much I know but you multiply that by each week in the year you get:
$.06 per week x 52 weeks = $3.12 per year saved and 156 gallons of water not used.
Still not a heck of a lot but it's starting to look somewhat better. Now here's the real kicker. The 2013 estimates there are 122,459,000 households in the USA according to statisia.com. Ready for some big math?
$3.12 per year saved per household x 122,459,000 households = $382,072,080 saved per year and 19,103,604,000 gallons of water not used.
That's pretty impressive considering all it takes is a household that averages one shower everyday to use approximately 9 seconds per shower less each day. A little bit adds up if we came together and really tried, what do you say, want to try and see what we can accomplish together?
