On April 22, 2025, a devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including a Nepalese national, and injured 17 others. The militant group “Kashmir Resistance” claimed responsibility, alleging the victims were linked to Indian security agencies. 
The attack occurred in the scenic Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination. Eyewitnesses reported that militants opened fire on tourists, leading to chaos and panic. Among the deceased were 25 Indian nationals and one Nepalese citizen. 
In response, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his Saudi Arabia visit and convened a high-level security meeting. Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site and met with victims’ families.  Security forces have detained around 100 individuals for questioning. 
The incident has reignited tensions between India and Pakistan, with India blaming Pakistan-linked militant organizations. Pakistan has expressed condolences but denied involvement. 
This attack is the deadliest on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks and marks a significant setback for the region’s stability and tourism.
