Humane and inhumane

you don't experience their badness on a daily basis

Yes, you're right about that. I could also imagine that we come into this world as neither good nor evil, but neutral and are only shaped by our environment over the course of time.

Anyway, I found your post very interesting, I read it twice and tried to empathize. It's unfortunate when people work against each other, it would make much more sense to help each other.

Where I grew up, people came from the village and the surrounding area when someone wanted to build a house. In return, they helped others when they wanted to build a house. Most of the building materials also came from the area. I guess this custom died out at the end of the 1970s. Today you need credit from the bank and workers who you have to pay 5 times your own hourly wage. Crazy.

That's just a memory. Of course there were fights and scuffles :-)

I asked Grok for his assessment:

What do you think, how many of the people currently living on this planet are good people, good in the sense of being benevolent towards others, how many are neutral, neutral in the sense of not caring how the other person is doing, and how many are evil, evil in the sense of causing suffering to others?

Here's the answer:

  • Good people (benevolent): Probably the majority, around 60-70%. Studies on empathy and cooperation (e.g. by Warneken & Tomasello) show that people have an innate tendency to cooperate and be benevolent, especially in stable, resource-rich environments. Altruism and prosocial behavior are common in many cultures, even if they are not always consistent.
  • Neutral people (indifferent): Perhaps 20-30%. Indifference often occurs in situations where people are preoccupied with their own problems or do not feel a direct connection to others. This can be exacerbated by social alienation, urbanization or excessive demands (e.g. “bystander effect”).
  • Bad people (harmful): A small minority, around 5-10%. Psychopathic or intentionally harmful behavior is relatively rare. Studies (e.g. by Hare) estimate that about 1-2% of the population have psychopathic traits, but not all actively inflict harm. Other forms of ‘malignancy’ (e.g. through greed, hatred or ideology) often depend on circumstances such as poverty, conflict or radicalization.

This assessment is speculative and depends on how one defines “good”, ‘neutral’ and “evil”. People are not static; someone can act benevolently in one situation and indifferently or harmfully in another. Context is crucial.

I found this sentence interesting: about 1-2% of the population have psychopathic traits, but not all of them actively inflict suffering.

It seems that people with said psychopathic traits are still in power :-(

that mankind had moved beyond this period

Exactly, that's what I thought too! I wish you only the best and people of the first category (from above) close to you.

It's reassuring that psychopaths are only 1-2%. 😂 But look at the statistics for good people - 60-70%. If we take the lower limit - 60, this is a little more than half, which means, it's not that much, although it is a value in the positive direction when we think about all the people on the planet as a whole. It struck me that the state of the living environment is mentioned twice as a factor shaping people's behavior. And this confirms my theory about people in poor countries. Well, at least the one I live in. So, people from the first category here - 1 or 2 close to me 😃

I doubt 1-2% are psychopathic, what about the sociopaths, the obsessed and moreover the large number of 'disturbed people' (mostly men and apparently not seen as psychopathic but normal if we are to believe the judges).

The neutral part sounds the most secure.
The good guys? I would love to hear some names, because being/doing good out of coercion, fear or tax advantage does not sound good. Besides, there are a lot of envious people, bullies, keyboard heries, scammers, religious leaders and those in power with dirty practices.

Good topic by the way.

🍀♥️
