Welcome to Steemit – Why do I say welcome?
Because there are a lot of folks acting like they have never made friends or connections before.
This post inspired by @saywha
In The Beginning
Let me start where all good stories start – At the beginning of my day…
Long before @ocd and the gifts of Steem Power Delegation, from @acidyo, @venuspcs, and Steemit, Inc.
I made the decision that I would invest my time helping others – whether by leaving a comment of assistance or a vote and a comment of engagement – I was going to manually curate the hell out of Steemit.
OH MY GODS--
Holy shit -- Greed does not pay. Don’t believe me?
WAIT – No – Desperation – I can’t decide what word to use…
Oh I know, let me go spam everyone’s comments:
Shallow 4 Shallow
Or
Penny 4 Penny
Because I haven’t taken the time to learn how penny power works.
This is what I see as I cruise through the Steemitverse.
And worse is the level – No, the lack of well-developed self-awareness.
You have to be self-aware to not be okay with trying to cheat the system. And what does this say about society as a whole?
When folks are stealing images and content for their own attempts at gain?
Greed Is Not How You
• Grow
• Develop wealth
• Make Connections
• Build Friendships
And worse desperation makes folks do even more ignorant kneejerk reactions.
Let’s Try Something New
• Stop
• Think
• Question
• Make a better choice
You want a vote, a comment, a follow – Then be a better Steemian!
Yeah, I am going to plug my little course – I lowered the price to a buck – why? Because I want new folks to have a better foundation and understand this place is about enjoying life. Yeah, you came here because there is cryptocurrency, but you will not survive your first month if you think that everyone gets rich in 30 days or less.
How To Be A Better Steemian and I accept itty bitty btc (on site) or SBD (or Steem) in my Steemit wallet.
My Current Give Back Programs
10% of the SBD earnings from this post are set aside to fund domestic abuse projects that are designed and maintained by @clevercreator – I am currently working towards building a long-term assistance program.
20% of the SBD from this post will be given back to the SteemIt Community through the amazing folks I find while doing my curation rounds.
As my earnings grow, these percentages will go up as well.
Every post that exceeds $100, and then multiples of 100 ($200, $300, $400, etc.), I will send out a book (used books that need good homes), WITH a handwritten note signed by yours truly, @clevercreator – But wait there are rules…
• Your comment must be the most voted
• Include in your comment what you would like to focus on in the letter (maybe something to encourage you or an idea that you need help with)
• For every multiple of $100 this post earns, that many folks can will be able to win…so if the post earns $311.13, then there will be 3 wonderful folks that will see this book and letter come to them
• You address must be deliverable by standard mail – I am sorry, at this time, I cannot afford a courier
• Yes, you can live outside the United States and win
• You must have an active SteemIt account at the time the post pays out
• Of course, the most important rule – have fun and get the discussion going
• If you will pay too much in taxes, outside the US, tell me, and I will send you a small e-gift card from Amazon
With regards to voting a vote increases rep points even though it has no power yet.
I admire your intentions about earning and giving a % back I hope you fulfill your goals soon.

I had been seeing several Steemit sorts of posts suggesting that beginners upvote their own root posts to build steem power more quickly. I did it a few times to begin to experiment with it because rationally made sense, but I felt strangely icky doing it. My level of self-awareness just won't let me use such a strategy.
And I like what you wrote because it really is self-awareness. Greed DOES work, but greed as a strategy still needs some cleverness and proper execution to work. A greed-based strategy plus a lack of self-awareness equals the most uninteresting posts and comments ever.
So... No more gaming for me... I am quite happy posting and commenting and having a little conversation from time to time in a comments section!

Sorry but my voting power is still low but thanks for a lovely post, agree when I started everyone was happy and suddenly you read all these posts of self voting and hacks and what not. I am to dumb to do any of those but I really think even my 6c to someone is better than nothing at all.

Hundreds of posts... Wow...
I am trying to do something every 2 or 3 days. I just go through new posts until I find 2-4 that seem to have some effort and thought put into them. I check quickly that they aren't pulled from something else on the internet. Then, I write up a quick review, especially if it seems like an unnoticed creator, with a link. It is my naive approach to curating.
Each one takes me quite some time.
Once I have my legs under me, you might find me asking you some questions in your comments about how to get through hundreds a day.
Best wishes!

It is super important to watch your voting power :)
steemd.com for that
try really hard to keep it above 80 percent and stop voting for sure at 70 percent.

While I'm against the 'greed' angle, I sometimes feel that by being nice or not being excessively clever (no pun intended) or conniving or sneaky that I am missing out on the success that the greedy people might be getting. Basically, the 'nice guys finish last' angle is what worries me, and that by 'playing by the rules' you end up being passed up by the people that are willing to get their hands dirty.

I completely see the angle and the frustration....
This is when a lesser mind does the bad things and gets burned sooner or later. And what scares me, I know I have not seen it all. There are more scams and frauds to come.

@Negativer I totally get what you mean (I am about 2 weeks into steemit) however you can be nice and maybe just a little bit clever, and run circles around most people by actively engaging in the community (which you do some on chat) and being extremely proactive in your approach. In my 2 weeks I have about 275 posts. 50+ actual posts and over 200 comments 70% of which are at least a few sentences and genuine. My whole point being, the way to do it here is the genuine guy way not necessarily nice guy. You are doing great!

The learning curve here is pretty steep, but I truly don't see that as an excuse for the types of things we are seeing steemit used for. This is what happens, I suppose, when a network like this gets a ridiculous influx of people from small sighted platforms like Twitter and Facebook... Those platforms only encourage an enormous following and engagement, whether the following or engagement has substance or not...
Aside from that, the sheer fact that someone is actually getting paid on steemit versus Fakebook, means that one's behavior should drastically change as well...
I do a ton of manual curation work myself, I've mostly been writing about #steemgigs, but I just started the #steemdads and #steemmoms tags to try and bring some attention to amazing parents as well!

Thanks for manually curating!
What great tags. I was just thinking about writing my next parenting course.
We have some great parents on here!!!
Faceslime is beyond painful... they have been trained to only drop blah blah blah. And like like like.
I still use twatter, but that is to draw folks to my Steemit account.
Steem On!!!
