For about fifty dollars, these GoPro alternatives are great for using in areas where I may be worried about the camera getting damaged. Though normally these cameras block ultraviolet and infrared light using a hot mirror. I removed this glass and now the sensor sees in full spectrum (Ultraviolet, Visual Light and Infrared).
I was able to find a filter adapter that fit the sjcam pretty close, I added in double sided adhesive tape to fill the small gap. Though I also added some hot glue as I think the tape may melt, though I do not think the hot glue will get hot enough in the sun to melt.
I use a battery pack so I can do long term recordings like video lapse of the clouds. I cover the battery in a white paper towel so the sun does not cook the housing.
Using the filter adapter, I can screw on different passthrough filters like the IR720, IR850 or IR950 filters to capture certain wavelengths of light. I need to get an ultraviolet filter for it though I have not found it in the right mm filter size.
Its nice to have a cheap camera that can do infrared as well now, I get worried with my expensive DSLR and lenses doing risky things. Though with this setup Im less worried about it.
