This picture is representative of my head at the moment. I am sitting at work and have several tasks to do but the one I am trying to do just isn't coming together, it needs something inspired. Any idea?
Well, of course I can't give you the task to do due to NDAs but it would be nice to be able to crowdsource some of the aspects that I am am struggling with since most likely, the knowledge resources reside here on Steem.
Sometimes it just requires stepping back snd looking at it from a different angle to have a view of what might have been overlooked or see the hole where the jigsaw puzzle fits. Things can come together very quickly when the components come into place but at the moment, I feel I am missing that piece that brings the picture together.
The problem I am facing is a knowledge gap in my understanding of the various systems, structure and customer view of the new company and this task requires deeper information than I hold. Normally I would be able to leverage the information banks of my colleagues for perspective, but I am here mostly alone today.
It is frustrating not to have the ideas flow, something that I generally don't struggle with in other areas. What I am thinking about doing is workshopping it a little out loud on a board and seeing if speaking it brings in some new ideas.
Workshopping my thoughts is something I do a fair bit and often (for what I can) I will put them out on Steem. Something that I have realised in my own business model is that having ideas is useless if I don't have the skills to develop them unless I share and collaborate. I have been able to bring value to my customers in areas that I by myself could never take advantage of due to ability or resources.
I think this is something that the developers on Steem could leverage as the community is a wealth of improvement and application ideas that for the most part, they are unable to utilise. Not every idea is a good idea however, and not every idea is worth implementing but having the pool of idea resources available is an excellent way to see trends and perhaps, find that killer app.
Well, that was my coffee break number two and now, time for joining The workshop of one. Perhaps it is like composing music or painting a picture?
Back to the drawing board and today, I mean that in the literal sense as it tends to help me connect with the thoughts better.
What is your preferred approach to problem solving?
Taraz

Going outside and stepping away from the PC (where most of my problems to be solved resided) seemed to provide inspiration at times.
Coffee and/or a ciggy optional.

I go to have walk in the forest. Somehow I am able to think much better when I am walking and moving. Sometimes it is enough to just stand up and walk around the room in circles, but walking in a forest lets you have an uninterrupted flow of thoughts for an extended period of time. Don't forget to take something to write ideas down with you ;-)

In the spring or summer I would likely do the same as a different environment produces different thoughts. When I teach and f the weather is good, I sometimes take my clients to sit in a park. The conversation is completely different than in the sterile offices and much more free and personal.

I love being creative outside of work, but that's why I prefer numbers. You can gather all the data and let the numbers speak for themselves for the most part.
Interpreting those numbers is a little more difficult to do sometimes and is much better done in a group with differing opinions on what they mean. That's when I hit that wall or messy room if you will. Trying to come up with answers to a problem when you have all the numbers, but are trying to accomplish the task by yourself.

I like the interpretation of numbers. Actually part of the solution to my problem is going to require some work with numbers to build understanding for the customer. Luckily, I don't have to do the work as my number crunching skills are less than poor. =)

it helps me to discuss with other people to see their perspective. Especially some who don't have the same way of thinking as me =) But it all depends on the problem. Would be awesome if we could help you brainstorm the actual issue at hand =)

Normally for my clients I am their springboard to bounce their ideas off, which puts me in an awkward position when I need the same. I found a colleague to act as my springboard today which was a great help.
Would be great to be able to share and get opinions here.
Hope you are doing well =)

Stepping away from a project can bring a fresh new perspective when you reexamine your concern. Workshopping is resourceful too, but may bring out of the box approaches and concepts. I find laying still or resting for a time will instill a new frame of mind. Kind of like meditation or being quiet and allowing the creative juices to work. Thanks @tarazkp

For me, getting onto my feet and mapping out my thoughts helps. I actually might post one of my techniques (I hardly use these days) that can help people develop ideas.

Steem has the potential to create these thought processes to enable organizations improve workflows and even brainstorming as perspectives from the outside often help with ideas. I typically invite resources from other lines of business to help generate ideas for problem solving.
