Having a good tour guide is important

When we travel there are many things that we need to look at, like a good and comfortable accommodation, food options of the place, deciding on the itinerary and one most important part is to have a good tour guide. If you are on a solo journey all by yourself then there is no need for tour guide, but then there are some places where it almost becomes mandatory to have a tour guide because of the complexity of that place. I have always preferred to travel by myself and not have any tour guides, but when I travelled to places like Egypt and Iran, the tour guide was a necessity. The last I travelled for the Everest base camp trek, even there the requirement of a tour guide was a necessity. These places it is difficult to venture on your own, sometimes it is the language problem or sometimes it is the transport issue.

For the EBC trek I was very lucky to have 2 excellent people accompanying me, one was the tour guide and the other the porter who carries the luggage all through out the trek. There are no vehicles there, so the bags you carry with you on the trek it is either you carry or you hire a porter. Considering the climate and the altitude it is extremely difficult to trek with 10 to 12 kgs of luggage on you, so it's advisable to hire a porter, and this is the major source of income for people living in these mountain region.

My tour guide whose name was Sagar was also a good photographer and that helped me a lot, when I would start my day in the morning I would hand over my phone to him for the pictures and he would keep taking pictures of me and the surroundings all through out the day, there were times when I had to tell him to stop, he would be so excited to click pictures.

It has been now 11 months that I completed the trek and he occasionally messages me and also sends me pictures of his later on treks with other tourist. That's so nice of him. When we had started moving up and were on high altitudes some times the climate would get on me and I would get cranky, later I would realize and he would tell me, do not worry, it happens with everyone. The altitude does get on you.

Yesterday he messaged me sharing some pictures of his recent trek with a group and it brought back memories of my trek.

These are the 2 kind people who made my journey possible and there were times when I was in doubt if I could do it or not but they did not give up on me and supported me in every possible manner.

Do you see that bag he is carrying, he carried that all the way up and he would tell me, it's very light, he was used to carrying triple the weight of this bag. While packing I was very mindful about the weight and ensured that I carried bare minimum to not make it a burden for him.

The 2 real heroes of my trek journey to who I am extremely grateful, because they are the people who made my dream come true.
