The Obelisk at Sultanahmet

In the ancient Egyptian history Obelisk has been of great significance, in those olden days an Obelisk was a representation of eternity and immortality. Through these Obelisk they honored God and the Pharos, it was like a connection between the 2 realms. It was a symbol of connection with Sun God Ra. In the present times they only stand as monuments of the olden times. Majority of the Obelisk around the world have been from Egypt and so is this one in Istanbul also, which is called the Theodosius Obelisk.

The Theodosius Obelisk was built in the 15 century B.C. by the Egyptian Pharaoh of that time to commemorate their victory in Syria. Later on in the 4th century this was transported to Turkey and installed in this place which is now called the Sultanahmet square. Behind this one there is one more Obelisk which is called the Walled Obelisk. This was built in Istanbul itself, it is said that initially it was decorated with sculptures symbolizing various victories of the Byzantine Empire but over a period of time it has all been destroyed. It does not catch much of attention in comparison to the first one.

There are some hieroglyphic writing on it, like all of their other monuments.

I find Egyptian history the most fascinating because they have a lot of connection with the afterlife. In whatever they did, there was always a reflection of connection with the higher-self and afterlife.
