Introduction to Linux
The Linux system is one of the most popular operating systems in the world of computers and networking today.
The operating system is the basic platform for operating computers, and it is the software package that programs uses to interact with hardware. The most popular operating systems today are Microsoft's Windows system, Linux system and Apple's Mac system.
Linux is classified as an open-source system, which means the community participates in its development and fix its problems. The Linux system was invented in 1991 by Linus Torvalds, who was a student at the University of Helsinki, and after he developed Linux, he offered it to the community for free as an open source operating system.

Uses of Linux
The Linux system and its features can be used in several areas and to fulfill many needs, and because it is a free operating system and open source, it allows developers, Tech companies to modify it and create special distributions to suit their different needs and requirements.
- Networks: Linux is widely used in the world of computer networks because it provides support for the operation of various network applications and programs.
- Databases: Linux is used almost by every database server in the world due to its strong security aspects, protection and ease of use.
- Websites Management: Linux provides an integrated environment of software, tools and applications that help build and manage websites.
- Maintenance: Linux is characterized by its tools and applications to maintain all parts of the computer, the possibility to repair errors in other operating systems, and other awesome services, such as: Recover deleted files, and maintenance of hard disks.
- Servers: Famous websites and companies use Linux servers due to their performance, and reliability.
- Security and protection: The Linux system and its flavors are the most widely used OSs around the world because they contains special tools that security professionals use to protect various websites, servers and databases.
Most famous Linux distributions
As an open source system, Linux provides an opportunity and full freedom to developers to edit, develop, and solve problems of its source code. This has resulted in the creation and development of many Linux releases called distributions. Each distribution was developed to do a specific job, or just to serve as an operating system for computers and other devices such as personal devices and computers, and servers.
- Ubuntu:is used by personal computers, is easy to use and provides many features that benefit the average users or professionals as well.

- The Linux Mint: is an Ubuntu-based distribution, and it is also specialized in personal computers. But is more user-friendly than Ubuntu.

- Fedora distribution:This distribution is characterized by a desktop environment and is widely used by servers and databases. It is a project supported by Red Hat.

- CentOs: it is a distribution similar to the Red Hat distribution, but it is free and open source and also used by servers and databases.

- The Red Hat distribution: is the most popular and widely used distribution in the field of e-servers. It is not free but commercial, which means you have to pay to use it.
