This is not fair, I don't know, the cuts that Trump will make, I suppose he will make cuts or make reforms or restructuring, but it is not Musk's utopia to go to Mars, it is within the Artemis program, it is going to the moon, taking humans to the moon again and reaching Mars afterwards, the only thing that is being discussed, the only thing that Musk proposed was to turn it around by going to Mars first and then if we have the means to go to Mars it is obviously easier to go to the Moon.
Elon Musk had made statements saying "Hey, I have nothing to do with the budgets", the thing is very controversial and it is logical that there is a review, of course it would be bad if there were cuts in terms of science budgets obviously, but there has to be a review because there were budgets for some programs that had been crazy, such as the issue of bringing samples from Mars, they had completely left the Provinces.
You also have to keep in mind that it is not a Trump issue, I don't think it is a Trump issue or that, if it is from Republicans, Democrats and such, it is not the first time that NASA has gotten into a dead end with the issue of budgets, we must remember, for example, that Obama suspended the space shuttle program in 2010 and also suspended the mission to return to the moon, because returning to the moon comes from a long time ago.
Before, it was called the constellation program, it was a program that George W. Bush had launched and planned to take humans to the Moon again in 2020, that was cut because the budgets had also skyrocketed, the shuttle program was impossible, perhaps because the NASA ships were too ambitious for the time, launching each one cost 1.5 billion dollars and they had also become an astronaut killing machine.
Of the 20 astronauts who have died on missions around the world, including the Soviet ones, 14 were on board a NASA space shuttle. Obama cut that off because it was already a dead end, and the United States was left without ships to send astronauts to space. They should have planned something intermediate, between what was the super ship that was the space shuttle and something else, a space taxi to be able to send humans again at least to the international space station that was in operation and from From 2010 to 2020, when SpaceX's manned dragon ship entered service, all American astronauts had to pay a ticket to Russia to be able to travel to the international space station and, among other things, this meant that they had to learn Russian for ship control and security issues, they had to obtain a level of Russian to be able to travel to space.
Now cuts are coming, NASA's accounts are going to be reorganized, I think it is necessary but I don't think the objectives will be lost because now there is a big difference compared to the Obama era and that is that China is very strong and with a very powerful program to reach the Moon and then also to Mars, so that objective cannot be lost, it would be a very hard blow if the United States, after the Constellation program and the Artemis program, did not manage to return to the Moon before China and I won't tell you anymore I won't tell you what It could be that the Chinese got to Mars first, so I think it will be solved in the end.
