Robots with millions of operations per second

A robot with a computer brain, eagle-vision eyes and joints that precisely mimic human muscles, Xpeng's new humanoid Iron is already working in factories in China and the company promises its robot will invade homes, stores and offices very soon.

With 60 joints, 200 degrees of freedom and 3,000 tops of processing power, that is, millions of operations per second, Iron challenges everything you thought you knew about robotics. By way of comparison, a dedicated cell phone chip can have between 5 to 30 tops. The Tesla Full Self Driving chip from version 3.0, for example, has already reached close to 144 tops.

Now 3,000 tops is super computer level with integrated advanced illa, something worthy of a next-generation humanoid robot or ultra-advanced autonomous systems, that places the CAS system in operational AGI territory in terms of raw capacity. Of course.

From cars to robots

Developed by the automaker Xpeng, which competes in the electric car market with giants such as Tesla, Iron was presented as part of the AI Tech 3 project that unites autonomous robots, cars and even flying vehicles in a single ecosystem.

At 1.73 cm tall and 70 kg, Iron has human proportions and 22 degrees of freedom in its hands alone, allowing it to perform everything from fine tasks to moving heavy objects.

And what is the difference between Iron and other humanoids?

Its brain runs with the Turing chip developed by Xpeng itself that processes models already with 30,000 million parameters, a power comparable to supercomputers dedicated to advanced ia, this chip allows the Iron not only walk, see and hear, but think, learn and act with logic, Unlike robots that walk with hard and mechanical movements the Iron uses a motion control system based on large models of ia with learning by reinforcement, allowing you to walk smoothly in a somewhat natural way like a real human.

Its internal structure is fully customized with sensor joints and motors designed from scratch by Xpeng ensuring strength, speed and precision at a high level and when it comes to safety the Eagle Eye version comes into play, with high definition cameras and 720º range, Iron maps the entire environment around it and reacts in real time to changes and obstacles.

A technology inherited from the autonomous driving of the brand's electric cars, Iron not only walks, sees and manipulates objects, it also talks to you naturally, its voice system was adapted directly from the intelligent cockpit of Xpeng vehicles, with logical reasoning capabilities, active inference, that is, it not only responds, but interprets the context, infers intentions and proposes solutions like a true high-level assistant.

It is integrated into the Chi iOS operating system that allows full control over perception, planning, movement and interaction, all of this happening in real time on board, without depending on external servers. Iron is already working in factories, helping on the production line of Xpeng electric cars, but the company goes further, seeing Iron as a multifunctional personal assistant capable of taking care of customer service, administrative support and even domestic care.

That's right friends, we are witnessing the birth of robots with expanded vision reasoning and almost human movement, we are just getting used to the AI's in our devices, now we will have to get used to robots with an intellectual level close to that of a human walking among us.
