Monitoring of the progress of farm is very important to a good farming practice especially after the germination of crops has been noticed.
However, individual farmer has a scheduled date to visit his farm on the day he will really devote to thoroughly spend time on the farm for checking, otherwise he can decide to hire a professional to do the work for him.
My first checking was a week and a day(8 days) after planting to ensure close monitoring of germination.
During the visit, I found that germinating buds of the cassava stems planted have started to sprout and the melon which normally take 4-5 days to come up to the surface, had brought up their two dicotyledon spread leaves. I did not really have much work to do but to check for field pests which could be flying or crawling insects. Unfortunately soldier and worker's termites were found on the tip of the cassava stems that were not completely buried in the soil(planting on the mounds). At the end of the day, all the pests were eliminated.
On my second visit after planting(i.e 17 days later), the farm was doing fine so to speak, because every mound was carrying green leaves of cassava, melon🍈 and maize plants on them. Though some weeds were also noticed on the farmland, careful uprooting were done to give space for the young plants to flourish, and stop competition for available nutrients in the soil.
After 25 days of planting, a check visit were also carried out for investigation of waterlogged on the farm area because of more days of heavy downpour of rain. Fortunately the soil percolation rate is faster than water holding capacity.
Thus working on checking and monitoring of farm for crop germination was successfully done during the first 25 days after planting.
I am here to say that change is permanent on farmland: it could be positive or negative, so do not neglect regular monitoring of your farm for you will reap bountifully if you do not give up.
