YAMS
Yams are a staple food in many cultures, particularly in West Africa and the Pacific Islands. These prominent foods are underground crops or tubers which has to be uprooted during harvest.
Originally, yams are native to Africa and Asia, with over 600 species. They're believed to have originated in the tropical regions of these continents. Characteristically, yams have rough brown backs with a thick inner tissue which could be white, yellow or red.

- Tubers: Yam tubers, especially the head which is the vegetative part are used as seed yams for planting.
- Staking: During growth, yam vines are supported with stakes/sticks to promote healthy growth.
- Mounding: Soil is mounded around the base of the plants to encourage tuber growth.
