State of the Art in the Art & Artist Community

Greetings, friends and artists of this community. Created about seven months ago, this community emerged with the purpose of promoting artists who make a living on this platform. I was invited to join and volunteered as a "promoter" of the visual arts, taking advantage of the fact that I curate diverse content on a daily basis.

Today, I want to share a statistical overview of the state of the art in our community. The purpose of this report is to generate conversations and, hopefully, actions to implement to boost the participation of Steemit artists (including arts and crafts enthusiasts).

1. Posts

totalposts.png
Posts published with the tag "hive-120695": 285 posts.
Average per day: 0.6 posts/day over the last 7 months.
The community shows a high variability in terms of posts per day, with a downward trend. Between 1 and 3 posts/day represents 47%, with sporadic peaks of 5 to 8 posts.
The graph maintains a plateau of between 1 and 2 posts; no upward trend is identified. We would need statistics from other communities to compare and establish the daily post rate in a community.

2. Top Authors

top-authors-chart.pn
Three authors contribute 30% of the total post volume. "@tezzmax" leads with the highest percentage of posts (15.1%), followed by "@wakeupkitty" (8.4%).
Of the first two, given that they have been moderators since the beginning, this is to be expected. Special mention should be made of "@marcoteixeira" (7.4%), who has been gaining ground in the last 10 weeks with a recurring contest.
The rest of the moderators do not appear in the top.
This indicates a concentration of content creation among a few key members of the community.
I don't want to forget to mention @newton666 and @almaguer, the latter in particular, who has become a frequent contributor in his short time in the community.

3a. Comments Over Time

comentario.png
Daily comment activity also shows significant fluctuations, following a pattern similar to posting, with days of high and low engagement. A total of 3,323 comments were reported in the last 7 months, which represents an average of 15.8 comments per day.

3b. Top commentators

top-commenters.png
Comment engagement (33.4%) is also concentrated among a small group of users, in the following order: "@wakeupkitty" (15.6%), followed by "@tezzmax" (12.2%), and "@hive-120695" (5.6%).

4. Tags

im2ea98jj.png
Due to Steemit's own publishing rules, the main tag, "@hive-120695" (23.6%), is the most used. It is followed by the general tag "#art" (20.1%) and then "#artonsteemit" (18.1%).
If the tags used by the authors really correspond to the published content, it can be inferred that content related to the theme of art is published in the community.

5. Club Status

club-distribution-ch
It's also striking that the associated club tag doesn't appear in the top 10. 82.8% of posts don't use Steemit club tags (Club5050, Club 75, Club 100). Note: Personally, I think this is a positive; other Steemit curators may disagree.

6. Word Count Distribution

7f3rijin.png
In our community, most posts tend to be short. 64.2% have a word count of less than 250. This could be associated with a preference for more visual posts with images and photographs.

7. Resume

Screenshot - 2_5_202
- Posting activity tends to be irregular and concentrated among a few users.
- The community shows a low level of overall engagement, as evidenced by the number of daily posts, the number of authors posting, and the number of comments per post.
- The burden of posting falls on a small group of key authors and commentators, who drive most of the activity.

Invitation

As I mentioned at the beginning, I present this analysis as a turning point for both moderators and the most recent and active members, to generate "conversations" and even propose ideas to implement for the future of our community.

I leave a couple of questions to start the dialogue:

  • ❓ What short- and medium-term strategies should we implement to promote greater participation in both posts and comments?
  • ❓ In what ways could we involve a greater number of our members in content creation and interaction through comments?

Firstly, I would love thank you for taking your time to put this together, in as much as we want this community to grow, we also do not want it to grow into lawlessness, I know some people would come for a while and leave after sometime but I'm sure the right people would come and would eventually stay.

I want to say a very big thank you to @wakeupkitty, she has done so well and she's currently doing fantastic at keeping the community alive and personally I really do appreciate that.

I think we'll just have to step back a bit and make a reformation on things to do and how to do them in order to keep the community more engaging again. I'm sure we'll grow!

Your last sentence resonated with me:

I think we'll have to step back a bit and rethink the things we do and how we do them to keep the community more attractive again.

What "things" do you think need to be reworked, and how should they be done?
@tezzmax, how do you envision the community growing?

Lol.... Sincerely, it's going to be a lot of work but I personally would try my best start it. I would call it "Fishing", it would be more like going throw communities and tags that are ralated to art and artists to make friends and convince them to join the community but the major thing I feel could be an hindrance is power to leverage on because truly people won't want to stay in a community commited for long if they aren't sure of earning in some certain way.

Hi, dear friend.

It's definitely going to be a lot of work, I agree.

"Artist fishing" I like the image 🎣 👍

  • There are many fishing methods: trawling, net fishing, individual fishing. 🎣

  • How good are we at fishing?

  • If there's one image associated with fishing, it's attracting fish with "good bait" 🎣

  • How can we make fish really want to swim and breed in our pond?

  • What could be our best "bait" because there are so many types? 🎣

Since you know a lot of fish at the university, what do you suggest to attract them and make them feel committed?

P.S. Thanks for your metaphor, it helped me generate several lines of thought. 🎣

Firstly, I don't know how possible it is, I think it would be nice if every member and those joining later could join a voting trail that would be used strictly to help the community members grow, so even when we visit artists posts that are not a member yet, they could see that as a leverage and could become productive members and if we could also get a whale on the trail that would make the whole process more effective too.

They all can't win a contests but if they could at least get some sort of a community vote every now and then, I believe that could extend a sense of belonging.

As I met you, you didn't earn at WOX, you were ignored and you kept posting. Now you are suddenly more know you earn in WOX how come?

Why don't you reserve a part of your earnings for this community and promote it?

I sure would do if I could, I just had a lot I needed to attend to financially in the past couple of months. And what's your sincere suggestion on a way forward?

You didn't answer my question. Why did you keep posting in WOX, although they never showed any support?
If you did that there, why wouldn't anyone like to post in this community? Since that's what we are talking about.
You posted without being rewarded and kept posting. Would you have received rewards if I had never upvoted you? I doubt it.

So perhaps this community is good for that? Making art and artists visible without asking you to delegate all your SP or to give 10% of you rewards and being with likeminded people.

You better start powering up, The more you have the higher the reward will be and also is the vote you give.

What is the step back about?
I continue the way I do and I am happy @almaguer joins. Your two friends disappeared and one made clear he can't handle the stress. I am not going to beg to post in this community. Same counts for my Tales & Stories and SCB Monkey Business. They all stand for a topic and if those who suggested it and were enthusiastic and active only at the start, so be it.

If no one posts the community isn't visible and Steem Curators don't care about art in average or all upvote in the same (home) communities. This is a fact. With you I agree that this community isn't started to simply accept every post and make it look like any other.

BTW I did notice that many artists do post on the same day.

Post on the same day in our community or generally on steemit?

I don't know about entire Steemit, it's hard to tell but I noticed it happens here if I upvote. So it can be that if not much time is left, or one feels down, it's in general half way or at the end of the week people all post which I don't find abnormal.

Dear,
I am possibly the newest of the community, despite the daily problems I face, my time is finite, I always try to dedicate some hour to creation. This community will not let it fall. You can count on my collaboration.
I have met like-minded people, and that is invaluable. I think you should also focus on conversation. If we know each other, and we talk about art, motivation comes.

Tengo gran curiosidad. 🙌

It was a comment, but it grew into a post.
