Bruxism or grinding with teeth is one of the common condition that often we may witness during our childhood. At least I remember that in my school I had one of our pupil who was sitting with me at the same desk and I remember that I heard how he was grinding his teeth, it was easy to hear. I actually thought that my school mate is doing that specially but then noticed that it is usually happening when he was concentrated during the tests, or math. That was something like the stress moments. I also remember that once I mentioned that to him and he was surprised because himself he has not noticed that. I have found it later that such situation could cause damage of enamel of teeth and that they can be damaged easily later.
Like I mentioned above, one of the causes is being nervous and stressed, maybe that distract a person from something and sometimes it could be a habit too. One a person has it as a habit it is difficult to get rid of it.
Sometimes that condition if grinding teeth during sleep, it also could be a situation when people can have a bad dream, nightmare and often we do not have control. I remember myself I also once woke up because I was grinding my teeth and it was a feeling that my jaw muscles were very tense. Since then I am very careful when I sleep and try not be bite my teeth together very tight.
Treatment options include to treat the causes, if there is any stress situations then that should be treated first, maybe some phycological support, support of families. For those who have grinding of teeth over night they could use a special splints and mouth guards that will protect the teeth. Also in some cases people may have spasm of the muscles of jam therefore some medication that reduces the tone of muscles may help in this situation.
It is important to find the reason and to avoid it, sometimes meditation and relaxation is helpful to have control of their emotions and stress. Sometimes night grinding may not be obvious for a person, that is why it is good to see regular dentist who could notice the change and damage to your teeth and draw your attention to this condition.
