Goal Setters

A goal setter refers to people who are in the habit of setting goals to achieve some tangible output or for some purpose best known to them. Usually, anybody can be a goal setter as long as needs and wants exist. goal setting is often brought by the need to meet some expectations as regards some desired output, arising from a need or wants. However, there's more to setting goals than setting goals, and this in particular will be explicitly explained in the coming paragraphs.

Goal Getters

A goal getter refers to people who are often persuaded by a fervent desire to take the necessary steps to achieve some outputs or meet expectations. They are often the achievers, inventors, success stories, record breakers; all which are characterized by some level of milestone achievement. Not everyone can be a goal getter because so many desire the prize but aren't willing to pay the price. The goal getters are people who crawl out of their zone of comfort to get things done. And because of them, everything that works work.

Goal Setter vs Goal Getter

I don't think it would be wise to determine which this argument should tilt to favour, because the latter wouldn't exist without the former, and the former will remain a myth except the latter exist. Therefore, both are equally as important in achieving a very tangible and strategic output. Goal setting is about making plans, and goal getting is about meeting those plans. However, like I said earlier, there's more to setting goals. Most people are often victims of setting unactionable goals, so that in the end when it couldn't be met, they beat themselves up instead, like it's a waste of energy and resources embarking on such endeavour at first.

More than coming to terms with the fact that it didn't work out, it's important to know why it didn't. When you start asking the right question,it only makes spotting the mistakes easier, and even so correcting them. In order to see the bigger picture, you have to first step out of the picture and have a look from a more elevated standpoint. I guess what I am trying to say is, setting unactionable goals is a waste of everybody's time and resources. Start setting SMART goals instead.

What are SMART goals...

SMART goals stands for goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reliable & Time-bound. A quick review of each element should present you with a view on just how important it is to achieving some tangible outputs rather than losing out.

Specific: Vagueness often open tasks to misinterpretation and misrepresentation. Therefore, goals needs to be specific i.e straight to the point. Specific goals are easier to track for conformance and exercise some control measures to reflect changes where necessary. Clarity can't be overemphasized at this point.

Measurable: Trust me, you don't want to find yourself in that tight spot where the goals you've set can't be quantified. Always endeavour to set Measurable goals i.e. goals that can be quantified. It's good to keep tabs on your milestone achievement. It helps to keep track of progress and provide you with a good boost of morale all step of the way when there's conformance with the planned expectations.

Attainable: Goals need to be attainable. You might even need to split them into short-term and long-term goals so it becomes easier to implement. The path of the achiever, one step at a time. And it just doesn't sound right setting some unrealistic expectations, something way beyond your reach. it's good to aim high or be positive, but definitely not when they end up being fairy tales. How realistic your set goals are will determine your success or failure at achieving them.

Relevant: Goals set needs to be relevant. It should be develop to suit a specific need or output. Setting relevant goals determines the level of control you have over conformance to the planned outcome. It ensures that the right set of deliverables are achieved in the end.

Time-bound: Every endeavour that's worthwhile are time-bound. It just doesn't make sense to have goal without a specific time frame to it. What good is a goal whose purpose is long past? Having your goal time-bound also help to determine which is priority as well as differentiating it from your everyday endeavour.

Why setting SMART goals matter

It's never enough setting goals, you need to set SMART goals so it helps you to exercise a considerable level of control over outcomes and expectations. It will provide you with the clarity, focus and the motivation needed to get things done. Remember, the best way to get things done is by doing it the right way, leveraging the right processes and tools, being strategically paced, relentless and deliberate with a golden decision to follow through.
